We know all too well the pains of being on the job hunt. So it’s easy to get swept up in a prospective job offer and ignore red flags that pop up along the way. Here are some early warning signs that should make you think twice before saying “yes”.
You should be wary if you were shuttled between the reception area and the interview room during your interview. Touring the office is a great way to see if the employees enjoy their work and meet future colleagues. If you did not get a real sense of the day-to-day working atmosphere, you’re not able to evaluate if you would fit in with the culture.
Lapses in communication from your recruiter could indicate larger problems at hand, primarily for smaller companies that should be faster and more efficient. If your point of contact is unresponsive, it might not only hint at problems with managing processes but alignment issues as well.
Whilst your decision should not solely depend on the salary, it is crucial to assess the salary offered in comparison to the size (and success) of the company. A big, successful company should not be making a lowball offer.
Once the excitement of possible employment has died down, take time to objectively assess the company in the same way they would have done with you (especially important if you’ve interviewed with a big brand name). Catching these signals early on could save you from an unpleasant job.
